Meanwhile, back at the Bluebird

Meanwhile, back at the Bluebird machine - currently in the store.

This is a rebadged machine in a 1920s cabinet with leadlight, made in Australlia, and is quite unusual. The problem is that it is a "rebadged" machine - in other words the name of the original maker isn't on there. Usually they were a Vickers from England, so a lot of people (there are some sewing machine people helping out on the internet) are saying it is a Vickers. A Vickers expert is saying that it is not - it is German.

So we are still working on it. This is a closeup of the head:

Websites for the Park

The Park now has several websites. There is this blog, plus another blog that is just starting. This one is designed to pass along news from the Cataloguing Team to other volunteers - the new one is designed to tell the public what is happening. You can check it out HERE. Not that there is much on it yet - that will come with time. Anyone got any news for it????

Then, there is a brilliant website developing as our main website - you can check that out HERE (just click on the link, and it takes you there).

And, finally, there is our section on CAN (Collections Australia Network) - not a lot there yet, either - but hopefully one day you will be able to check our catalogue there online. This is a good site to check out what Museums there are if you are going away on holidays. Always worth checking out what others are up to.

Twenty-seven and still counting

The Cataloging Team has been auditing the number of sewing machines in the Park. Today we reached sewing machine #27 - and we are still counting.

Here is one from Sarah Carter's shop - we are still working on its brand, but it is not a Singer. We have far more Singers than anything else - including some lovely industrial ones.

Looking at items

Sometimes it is hard to see the wood for the trees. Or the objects for the buildings ....

Well, what I mean is that some of the objects (well, most of them), are fascinating in their own right. People who come into Museums are either Sprinters, strollers or students. Some sprint through, some stroll through and look at things in some depth - and some spend a lot of time, and concentrate on individual items.

Like this one - a beautiful sewing box in Sarah Carter's shop:

More on the Honour Roll

No real news yet on the Honour Roll from the last post - except to say that it looks as if a number of the men on it were born in South West Victoria.

So, can anyone confirm if this is a local Honour Roll????

We are Here!

The Gippsland Heritage Park cataloguers (also known at this stage as Eddie and Linda), are here and ready to tell all the other volunteers about our work. Just a little bit at a time.

And ask lots of questions.

So please pass this URL along to anyone else involved, and we will look forward to letting you know more about our progress as we move into top gear.

(And, until we do, you will see us lurking around the Police Station - that is where we will be working from at the start).

And, while we have your attention - can anyone tell us where this Honour Roll, in the Military Display, comes from. The nearest and dearest of one of the cataloguers would like to know????

We are still getting this all sorted out - you can e-mail Linda, at kapana[at]netspace.net.au if you can shed any light on its origin. (Or, if you are used to blogging, and are registered with blogger, you can even leave a comment on here).

Thanks!
