Full steam ahead

The Cataloguing Team is working so hard there is almost no spare time for blogging.

The Wednesday/Thursday Team is mainly working on the textiles in Sarah Carter (the dressmaker's shop), where they have also started to change over the window to display the iron collection.

They have enjoyed getting down to the nitty-gritty of recognising such things as hand-made Broderie Anglaise lace on some of the garments.

And they are most excited about discovering a 1893 Singer hand sewing machine actually works, and can be sewn on.

The Friday (and sometimes Monday) Team are still working in Calegero, as well as dealing with the intake cataloguing of new items. Although they are about to turn their attention to the Miner's Hut.

The Horse Equipment Team (a Wednesday sub-group) has been cataloguing up a storm in the Bootmaker's, where they have sorted out all the bits and stirrups as well as the saddles.

So all-in-all, things are pretty busy!

One Hundred Years Ago

P05834

Some of the Cataloguers from the Wednesday/Thursday team are now getting up to speed, and are working through the Sarah Carter Collection. On Thursday they were thrilled to discover two fashion magazines / catalogues that were exactly 100 years old.

The one above is English, but there is another that we will have more news about soon, that is from Melbourne.

In the meantime, there are copies of some of the pages up on the wall in Sarah Carter's - once you are inside, just have a look at the door into the front window. Sarah would have had a magazine like this in her shop for her clients to pick out a design for her to copy.
